How the farm began…
Allen Farms was first established as a farm in 1987 by Debra Barrett, after her first child Emily was born. Deb wanted to share her passion for growing fresh healthy foods and provide a great quality of life for her family. She decided that starting the organic farm was the ideal solution.
Having young children around the farm (both Emily and Tom), Debra did not want to expose them to any harmful chemicals so she started practicing organic farming. Deb started with one greenhouse where she started growing a variety of herbs and greens. As time went on and her children grew older, Deb was able to devote more time into her passion and expand the farm into a business. With help from her family, children, and friends, Deb was able to work the farm and establish it from the roots up.
The farm today…
Today the farm consists of 15 acres and 7 greenhouses. The farm is certified organic by Bay State Organic Certifiers. We sell our produce at local farmers markets, grocery stores and co-ops. We supply our fresh produce to local restaurants and chefs. We hope you get to enjoy our fresh organic produce!
